Ethiopian Airlines signed an agreement with Archer Aviation, a global aviation company, on Megabit 17, 2017 E.C. (March 26, 2025).

The agreement aims to introduce electric-powered aircraft into Ethiopia’s air transport system. These aircraft are expected to dramatically reduce travel time—for example, trips that take 60–90 minutes by car will be shortened to around 10 minutes by air.

🛫 Where Does the Project Stand Now?
When asked about the current status of the agreement, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew stated:

"By 2026, we will bring in two electric aircraft from France. We plan to primarily use them at tourist destinations."

💻 What About E-commerce Collaborations?
Mr. Mesfin was also asked whether the airline is considering partnering with global e-commerce giants like Amazon or Alibaba, or local platforms like Zemen Gebeya.

He responded:

"Ethiopian Airlines is already engaged in certain activities in this space, but we’re still in early stages. We’ve built the facilities needed for global e-commerce logistics, focusing on transportation and logistics only. We are not directly involved in e-commerce sales—that’s handled by other companies."

📦 Role in Logistics Chain
Mr. Mesfin added:

“We manage the transport and delivery part of the logistics chain. From pickup to final delivery, we work with last-mile partners, utilizing our cargo terminal at Bole International Airport. This is a well-defined project that has already started, but more work is still needed to scale it.”

የዚህ ስምምነት ትግበራ በምን ደረጃ ላይ ይገኛል ? ሲል ቲክቫህ ኢትዮጵያ ለኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድ ግሩፕ ዋና ስራ አስፈጻሚ አቶ መስፍን ጣሰው ጥያቄ አቅርቧል።

ዋና ስራ አስፈጻሚ በሰጡት ምላሽ " በፈርንጂዎቹ 2026 ሁለት በኤሌክትሪክ የሚሰሩ ትናንሽ አውሮፕላኖች እናስመጣለን በዋነኛነት የቱሪስት መዳረሻዎች ላይ እንጠቀምባቸዋለን ብለን አቅደናል " ብለዋል።

የኢ-ኮሜርስ ንግድን ከማስፋፋት አኳያ አየር መንገዱ ከአለም አቀፎቹ አማዞን እና አሊባባ እንዲሁም ከሃገር ውስጡ " ዘመን ገበያ " ጋር በአጋርነት ለመስራት አስቧል ወይ ? ምን አይነት እንቅስቃሴዎችንስ እያደረገ ይገኛል ? የሚል ጥያቄ ያነሳንላቸው አቶ መስፍን ፤ አየር መንገዱ የተወሰነ እንቅስቃሴዎች እያደረገ እንደሚገኝ ነገር ግን ገና በሚባል ደረጃ ላይ ያለ መሆኑን ጠቁመዋል።

ዋና ስራ አስፈጻሚው አቶ መስፍን በተጨማሪ ምን አሉ ?

"እኛ እስካሁን ድረስ ኢ-ኮሜርስን በአለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ለመስራት የሚያስችለንን ፋሲሊቲ ገንብተናል።

ይህ ፋስሊቲ የትራንስፖርት እና ሎጂስቲክስ አካሉን ብቻ ነው የሚሰራው እኛ ኢ-ኮሜርስ ውስጥ አንገባም ኢ-ኮሜርስ ንግዱን የሚሰሩት ሌሎች ድርጅቶች ናቸው እኛ ትራንስፖርቱን ነው የምናቀላጥፈው።

ከመነሻው ማጠናቀቁን እና መዳረሻውን ላይ ደግሞ የመጨረሻውን ከሚያከፋፍሉ ድርጅቶች ጋር ተቀናጅተን ቦሌ ኤርፖርት ካርጎ ተርሚናላችንን ተጠቅመን ይህንን ለማሳለጥ ነው የምንሰራው የተወሰነ የተጀመረ ስራ አለ ነገር ግን ገና መሰራት ያለበት ነው " ብለዋል።
